UK MPs Call for Updating of Online Gambling Legislation
The UK Media and Sport Committee that is chaired by John Whittingdale, has published the report and British MPs have expressed their dissatisfaction with the present online gambling situation. They concluded that the Gambling Act 2005 is outdated and doesn’t respond the current situation with online gambling, as current online gambling legislation is unable to cope with all technological and social changes.
The UK Culture, Media and Sport Committee supported the idea of the taxation but stated that the UK Treasury must work directly with stakeholders of online gambling industry to establish the proper level of taxation on online gambling. The inability of the UK Culture, Media and Sport Committee to establish remote taxation on online gambling at an appropriate level has led to the moving of gambling operators offshore. The idea is to make legislation more flexible in order to encourage online gambling operators to accept UK gambling legislation and taxation. British MPs hope that these measures will prevent the forming of a grey market.
