Blackjack is one of the most popular and favorite card games at any casino. Some called it twenty-one because the object of the game is to get a total value of cards as close to 21 as possible without going over 21 and beat the dealer’s total. Face cards (Kings, Queens, and Jacks) are worth 10. Aces are worth either 1 or 11, depending on which is better in the set situation. Six or eight decks of cards usually used for Blackjack. It is a game for about six players.
The winner is the player who has closest to a total of 21. You gain 21 by adding up the values of the cards, if your cards total is more than 21 you lose automatically. In case the dealer has more than 21, you win, of course if your score is 21 or less. When the dealer loses, the players with higher count than the dealer win the amount equal to their bet. No one wins and no one loses in case of a tie. A tie is also called a “push”.
Ace and 10 on the first two cards dealt is called “Blackjack”, it means an automatic player win at 1.5 to 1, unless the house ties.
Before dealing the cards, the bets are placed. After all the bets are done, the dealer deals two cards to the player and one to himself face-up, the second card for the dealer is given face-down. After this a player decides whether you “hit” (take another card) or “stand” (pass to the dealer). A player can keep taking cards until he is satisfied with the total or he busts. The dealer can keep hitting until he has 17 or more.
There are also other betting options:
- Insurance: side bet up to half the initial bet against the dealer having a natural 21 – allowed only when the dealer’s showing card is an Ace. If the dealer has a 10 face down and makes a blackjack, insurance pays at 2-1 odds, but loses if the dealer does not.
- Surrender: giving up your hand and lose only half the bet.
- Early Surrender: surrender allowed before the dealer checks for blackjack.
- Late Surrender: the dealer first checks to see if he has blackjack. If he does, surrender is not permitted.
- Double Down: double your initial bet following the initial two-card deal, but you can hit one card only.
- Split Hand: split the initial two-card hand into two and play them separately – allowed only when the two first cards are of equal value.
- Hard Hand: A hand without an Ace, or with an Ace valued at 1.
- Soft Hand: A hand that contains an Ace counted as 11 is called a Soft Hand.
